St Mike's Rectory in Toronto - funky heads

Toronto is an interesting city to play tourist in.  Lots of great sites, fun place to see and tons of great food. One of the best things to do is poke around different neigbourhoods looking at the architecture. Toronto can be a real mishmash of styles.

St. Mike's Cathederal in the downtown area, has a few hidden gems if you wander around the grounds. Stroll around the corner to the rectory and you'll see these two dour souls protecting the entrance:

One Shot app on Windows phone - giving it another try

I stopped using One Shot app for windows phone app on my old phone because it caused it to seriously over-heat. Well, new phone and I'm giving it another try. So far, so good. I used it extensively on my trip down to McCaul St. and the phone stayed  cool throughout the afternoon.

Industrial inspired wallpaper

I was sitting at my computer yesterday looking through the different textured backgrounds I've photographed over the past year. And, before you ask, yes I do take close up shots of rusted out metal, mossy bark and concrete walls. I periodically feel a bit daft, but it's worth it. The textured look they give an image is amazing. The liberal use of the colour replace tool and multiply offers endless possibilities for background effects. That got me looking at the different wallpapers I often use on my computer. I noticed that I tend to gravitate towards industrial/steam punkesque artwork. Lots of gears and tools, old maps and compasses etc.  Then I looked at the photos I've taken. Again, lots of metal textures, closeups of gears and locks. So I decided to apply myself to making some desktop backgrounds for myself.

Smart phone - Winter 2013 ice storm photos revisited

Winter photos

The first time I realised you could take excellent photos with a small smart phone was 2013. I used a little point and shoot NIKON off and on, but I'm incredibly lazy when it comes to carting a camera around so I didn't carry it with me very often.   Well the ice storm over the 2013 Christmas holidays pretty much were a revelation.

Catpaw with a pint & a typical bad haircutTime for a new look - the venerable cat on a postage stamp is now retired. As much as I loved him, it was time for a face lift - bad haircut & all.
