Bitter Grounds - espresso fueled ramblings

Out looking at our little balcony garden and thrilled to see all the new growth on our spruce tree. We were sure it bit the dust after our severe winter, but hey ... it's showing an amazing amount of growth this month.

Spruce tree growth

After the wicked wind we suffered through over the winter it has a permanent 45 degree tilt to the east. We'll have to figure out how to tie it up against the balcony railing before winter. I like to look at it, it reminds me of those Group of 7 paintings of north Ontario - the ones with the windswept pines.  But, we're just happy it's alive. Our little cedar bit the dust as did our lilac tree. We've replaced both already and hopefully they'll do better this year.

Catpaw with a pint & a typical bad haircutTime for a new look - the venerable cat on a postage stamp is now retired. As much as I loved him, it was time for a face lift - bad haircut & all.
