VIBER Connect. Freely – untether yourself from your phone
App Review ---- ☕☕☕☕☕ /☕☕☕☕☕
Works on: Win desktop/ Surface / tablet / Windows phone / iPhone / Android
Have the urge to stay connected to your friends or customers but, like me loath tap, tap, tapping on a teeny screen? Viber may be what you are looking for.
When I’m working at my desk, I often leave my phone within reach in case I get a text. But I have to be honest, I hate texting. Well, to be more precise, I hate the small screen and thumb typing that comes with it. Up until now, I’ve discouraged most people from texting. I’ve tried different apps, but they all end up with the same issue – I’m lazy and don’t want to put effort into my typing. So I went searching for an app that will run on my desktop or tablet. And I found Viber.
I had played around with Viber previously but didn’t give it much thought. Until recently most customers were content emailing me. Calling is a waste of time, as curmudgeonly as it sounds, I hate talking on the phone. I’ll return calls, but dislike it. Anyway … I did a bit of reading and reinstalled Viber on my phone. Then I installed the app on my Surface tablet. I’ve already dealt with a customer vacationing in Mexico. We sent photos back and forth, chatted and he’s been able to send me info on a computer issue he’s having. All pretty seamless.
Customers seem pretty content – one more way of contacting me with the added bonus, if they wish, we can tap the call button and actually chat.
Viber works on a wide number of desktop platforms:
Windows: 7, 8, 10, XP SP3, Vista
Mac: OSX 10.7 and above
Linux: 64 bit, Ubuntu, Fedora
As well it works on Blackberry, Android, Windows, iPhones.
Setup on your phone first then install on either your tablet or laptop or desktop. Follow the very simple onscreen instructions and you’ll be set. All you need is a decent wifi connection and you’ll be ready to send/receive to your hearts content.
So far, I’ve encountered no glitches or issues that concern me. The only caveat is, you need to have the most recent version of Viber on your phone if you want to use the desktop version. If your phone can’t accommodate the latest update, you’ll have to forgo the luxury of a desktop Viber. Simple to use, no fuss setup and stable.
Rated on the Good / Bad / Ugly scale: Nope sorry, this app is Godly.
