App Review - Scanning documents on the go - Vanaia ScanWritr mobile page scanner

Vanaia™ Scanwritr Vanaia™ Scanwritr App Review   ----   ☕☕☕☕ /☕☕☕☕☕
Works on: Win10 / Windows phone / IOS / Android / Blackberry

http://www.vanaia.com/scanwritr/

I have a nice little app for the road warrior. One of the most often requested for apps I’m asked to source is a good mobile scanner that will let a person do basic edits on a document. Vanaia™ Scanwritr ticks all the right boxes for either home or office use. As far as size goes, it's a real feather weight at around 8mb. Don't let the size fool you, it offers more functionality than heftier competitors, with less hassle.

It’s an excellent app to have if you are in the library doing research. You can quickly scan a page and store it to look at later. You can also scan just a section of the page if that’s all you need. If you are in a meeting, ScanWritr will let you take a quick scan of any notes being made, no need to go to the photocopier or scanner and transfer. Just fire up the app, let it scan and Bob’s your uncle!

App Review NotePlus – utilitarian #app that deserves it’s solid rating

NotePlus app for WinPhone and iPhoneNote Plus by DreamMatrix (http://www.dm360.cc/) -- ☕☕☕☕ /☕☕☕☕☕

Works on: Windows phone / iPhone – not available on Android

I went hunting for a simple app that would let me take notes
on the fly. Here’s my list of demands:

  • Small footprint – not interested in downloading a huge app for a simple task
  • Easy to read – clean interface with crisp fonts
  • Customizable to suit my tastes
  • What you see is what you get design – not interested in a steep learning curve just to write out my grocery list or quick note while on the subway
  • Good contrast so writing is viewable without squinting
  • Backup capable – not an essential, but occasionally I write down ideas for future posts and wanted a way of backing them up
  • Fast – if your app takes more than 1 min to load it comes off my phone. Don’t waste my time.
  • Categories – needs a method for organising my notes
  • Piss off with the intrusive ads - ads are ok if it's a free app, but if a pop up ad appears I'm dumping your work.

App review - Viber texting without your cell phone

VIBER Connect. Freely – untether yourself from your phone

App Review   ----   ☕☕☕☕☕ /☕☕☕☕☕
Works on: Win desktop/ Surface / tablet / Windows phone / iPhone / Android

Have the urge to stay connected to your friends or customers but, like me loath tap, tap, tapping on a teeny screen? Viber may be what you are looking for.Viber app for texting review

When I’m working at my desk, I often leave my phone within reach in case I get a text. But I have to be honest, I hate texting. Well, to be more precise, I hate the small screen and thumb typing that comes with it. Up until now, I’ve discouraged most people from texting. I’ve tried different apps, but they all end up with the same issue – I’m lazy and don’t want to put effort into my typing. So I went searching  for an app that will run on my desktop or tablet. And I found Viber.

No More Voicemail – the latest app to promote obnoxious net behaviour

no more messages I’ve been reading, with a certain wry amusement, a number of sites praising the development of No More Voicemail, an app that sends phone calls to an endless ring tone.

The app is pretty basic. Install the app on your phone and after certain number of rings the caller is forwarded to a number that doesn’t pick up. That’s right, no messages. It will ring until you decide to pick up or the person on the other end hangs up. I’ve been reading articles that claim it will force people to give up and send a text message instead. I have no problem with someone who doesn’t want to use voice mail and turns it off, but this notion that everyone has a cell phone, can text or wants to, is obnoxious.

What’s my beef? Well let’s start with the entire passive aggressive FU tone of this app.

Win 10 App Review - The good and the bad abt Pedometer Master (Run Master)

Pedometer Master mainscreen App Review   -  Pedometer Master (Run Master)  ---   ☕☕☕ /☕☕☕☕☕
 Win 10 / Windows phone

This app is maddening. It has all the features I wanted in a pedometer, is fun to use and has many features that make it a truly stellar app. I use it to track my route while I’m going about service calls. I was looking for a simple pedometer that would let me save maps and see how far I traveled and Pedometer Master fit my needs. However:  1 serious issue turns this from a stellar app to a mediocre one.

First the good:

For those of use interested in tracking our path on a map, it’s spot on. The geo-mapping works very well. Remember those old Family Circus strips that showed Little Billies’ circuitous route around the neighbourhood? That’s the way any of my maps look.  Hither and yon but never in a straight line.
