Poland 2021 stamp program includes several great postcards to collect as well as cancels that will delight any cancel hound’s heart. The January First Day Cover to poet and soldier Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński is a powerful tribute. Of Jarosław Ochendzan 3 designs for Poczta polska, the Baczyński cover, (and post mark) is the standout. K.K. Baczyński was a “Generation of Columbus” member who was killed during the Warsaw Uprising. I searched for an English translation of his works, but unfortunately, the Toronto Public Library has one translated work and its reference use only. I have to wait until the lockdown ends before I’m able to trot off to the Reference Library to read it.
Poezja.org has much of his work online and freely available. But Google Translate doesn’t offer a solid translation. It’s good for deciphering a few paragraphs but misses the nuances of a poem that a top human translator can offer. But Poezja will have to suffice. The site contains the poem included on the cover Wesele poety – Poet’s Wedding.
