2021 Mongolian stamps, FDCs & postcards

Written by catpaw

September 04, 2021

2021 Mongolian stamps threw me for a bit. When I started this article, only 3 stamps had been issued. That was way down from last year’s offerings. So I left this for a couple of weeks and BAM! Out popped more stamps. August and September represent everything I expect from Mongolia’s designers – strong visuals that dig deep into the almost endless well of culture and history of Mongolia coupled with a distinct artistic sensibility.

I wish I could put a name to the artists behind the stamps, but no luck in sourcing the identities. Sometimes an artist name can be found tucked into the design, but not with Mongolian stamps. I’ve contacted Mongolia’s post office in hopes of receiving some unpublished details. But so far, no luck.

Kanjur Written With Nine Precious Stones was submitted to the UNESCO project in 2012 and included the following year.

Large collection of over 1600 works on ten great and small sciences of traditional Buddhism (philosophy, technology, logic, medicine, philology, astrology, model dance, poetics, Abhidarma, composition) created by ancient Indian and Tibetan scientists and panditas. It is the world’s only copy and an important part of intellectual heritage of humanity, which demonstrates remarkable traditional methods of Mongolians to create books by using precious stones. This sutra includes many pictures such as deities, human beings and animals namely birds, tigers, tortoise, finely painted in various colors, expressing the ideals of philosophy, beauty and mercy. It proves that ancient and medieval Mongolian artists understood profoundly the compassion of Buddhism and power of internal intelligence.
