The 2021 New Zealand stamp program is well underway. New Zealand post showcases several familiar themes such as wildlife, boating and royalty. Boating aficionados should be pleased with the 4 stamps celebrating Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron’s 150 years. Designer John Morris excelled in this series. They are beautifully simple in design. Tolkien fans will be celebrating too with the 20th anniversary of the Lord of the Rings film, so that’ll make them happy.

The Pleiades is the Māori New Year.
Matariki is the Māori name for the cluster of stars also known as the Pleiades. It rises in midwinter and for many Māori, it heralds the start of a new year.
… literally means the ‘eyes of god’ (mata ariki) or ‘little eyes’ (mata riki). According to myth, when Ranginui, the sky father, and Papatūānuku, the earth mother, were separated by their children, the god of the winds, Tāwhirimātea, became so angry that he tore out his eyes and threw them into the heavens.

- $2.80 Cameron Leslie – Para swimmer and Wheelchair Rugby player Cameron Leslie was born with a quadruple limb deficiency. He is the world record holder and three-time Paralympic gold medalist in the Men’s 150m Individual Medley SM4.
- $3.60 Emma Foy & Hannah van Kampen – Dargaville-born Emma Foy, who is visually impaired, snared a bronze medal at the 2013 UCI Para Cycling Road World Championships. She was ranked #1 in the world in the Elite Women’s Tandem track standings along with her sighted pilot Hannah van Kampen.
