Turkey’s 2021 stamp program includes three centenary commemoratives, Europa issues, sports, and arts. Frustratingly, information offered by Turkey’s post office doesn’t include any details about designers, regular definitive issues, or, much else.
Among the centenary stamps are National Independence, founding of the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, and the Sakarya Battle. Another issue, worth looking for will be the Expo 2021 stamps featuring Hatay, the gateway to the Silkroad. Much can be done with this as a topic. Hatay is considered one of the oldest settlements in Turkey, dating to the middle paleolithic era. Unfortunately, because of the pandemic, Expo 2021 has been postponed a year, and I expect the stamps won’t be released this year.
Don’t expect the summer 2021 Olympic stamps either. Like most countries, Turkey will likely postpone them as well. Other stamps that sound intriguing include the cucurbits, which could be cucumbers, luffas, watermelons, pumpkins, or several other members of the gourd family. The entry is a bit cryptic about what the stamp will be.

Many new additions to explore. Turkey issues a number of special envelopes that are easy to miss. I’ve included them, plus the cancels. These envelopes are not FDCs, so they may come with any current stamps. Check out the Earthquake Awareness envelope. The cancel is great. You’ll also find some new definitive issues. Sometimes translations or differences in postal systems make it a difficult to list items, but I think I have the listings correct. Regular issues and standard issues appear to match up with what are called definitives here in Canada. If I’m incorrect, please, let me know in the comments below.

EUROMED 2021 Handicraft Jewellery of Mediterranean

Telkari (Filigree) technique, which is one of the Turkish handicraft techniques, is a decorative art similar to fine-looking lace obtained by curling, wrapping or knitting thin silver or gold wires to form various patterns or by soldering them on a metal background. Telkari is also referred to as “filigree”. Filigree is a combination of the Latin words “filium” (yarn) and “granium” (wheat).
The “Tie Pin” on the stamp is inspired by rumi patterns and is made by filigree technique and designed by applying inlay and embossing process in patches. The “Tie Pin” in the first day cover made using turquoise stone was inspired by palmet patterns and made with filigree technique and adorned with mosaic art. Euromed 2021

Designs for Hong Kong stamps 2021 will continue a couple of long-term series that highlight Hong Kong’s rich history & art. Information on upcoming stamps covers January to June only. We’ll have to wait until spring to see what the rest of the year offers. I must be brutally honest; I have neglected Hong Kong stamps for most of my collecting life. Given my love of Chinese art, I’m a bit embarrassed by this. One of the great side effects of tracking down world-wide issues for 2021, is gaining a greater appreciation of stamp cultures outside of my Canadian centric bubble.
The artwork in all the releases so far is outstanding. As usual, I’m trying to post links to the designers and artists, but it often takes longer than I like. Designer Stéphane Huot designed the 2018 and 2019 series as well. Huot may be familiar to Canadian collectors as the creator of the immensely popular NHL All-Star series that ran in the early 2000s.

I checked the stamp listing for 2021 and didn’t see a 4th series mentioned so it looks like the Far and Wide series wrapped up with issue 3. Most of the cards are still available through Canada Post, with the previously mentioned Kootney Park sold out. Check them out here Postage-paid postcards | Canada Post. The 2019 series is still available via Canada Post, but looks like you’ll have to scrounge around for the full 2018 postcards.

2021 Year of the Ox stamps are as diverse as they are plentiful. Each country that issued stamps for the celebration put their own twist on the Lunar New Year symbol. This means a lot of fun exploring designs. I’ve begun listing all the issues and will continue posting as I find them. Year of the Metal Ox – 新年快乐
2021 is the Year Ox. Not just an ox, but a metal ox. It started February 12th, 2021 and will run until January 31st, 2022. The Lunar New Year follows a 12-year cycle, with ox being the second animal in the calendar. The Lunar calendar follows 5 elements – Fire (火 huǒ), Water (水 shuǐ), Wood (木 mù), Metal (金 jīn), and Earth (土 tǔ) and this year is the metal cycle. The ox symbolises hard work, calm and steadiness.
Many of the stamps below reflect that sense of calm and strength. But a few display a charming warmth and sense of fun hidden in the design. I had a great deal of joy exploring the unique designs and how each country interprets the Year of the Metal Ox. Hope you enjoy them as much as I do. I haven’t decided which is my favourite. The next stage in this project is to find details about the design, what elements were included and why. That might not come to fruition, but I’ll try. One thing to look for is the incorporation of the Ox’s lucky colours: yellow, gold, white and brown.

The stamp sheetlet depicts a sturdy ox in the wilderness against the background of an arable paddy with crops, a turning waterwheel, and the golden grains swaying gracefully in the wind, signifying bumper harvests in the coming year. The stamp features the lacquered illuminated ox display carved from wood, denoting a year full of vigour and robustness resembling an ox. In parallel, Hongkong Post also issues a silk stamp sheetlet with the fine texture lending a touch of unparalleled decency and nobility to the auspicious ox to herald the New Year with prosperity and good fortune.
