Orchids for the 2022 Aruba stamp program

by | Mar 28, 2022

We should expect 3 sets coming out of the 2022 Aruba stamp program, all featuring local topics. If you are new to stamp collecting, and not sure where to start, Aruba is a good choice.  They don’t issue too many stamps, so collecting them is manageable for novices and they tend to stay focused on creating stamps relevant to the country.  If you are a cancel collector, don’t neglect Aruba. They offer some clean, crisp postmarks that are worth tracking down.

2021 featured tourism, agriculture and fishing. This year, extends into Aruba’s nature with their fabulous orchids featuring Natascha de la Fuente’s artwork. If you were lucky enough to be in Aruba on March 28, then you would have been treated to her signing covers. That’s another thing about Aruba post, they EXCEL in promoting, not just the stamps, but the local artists who design them. These “meet and greets” are a great way to find out more about the designers, the topics and just enjoy a bit of extra information about the stamps.

If you manage to get to one of the artist signings, drop a comment below. I’d love to hear about it.

Onwards to orchids!

The first postal activities on the island consisted of sending and receiving mail from boats originating from Curaçao and at times Venezuela. Garibaldi Cephas Helder received the mail that came in on the boats. The announcement of the mail’s arrival took place in the harbor of Oranjestad – all public mail had to be collected at the auxiliary post office. People used all means of transportation to pick-up their mail – horses, donkeys, boats, but most of them came on foot. New available stamps : Post Aruba

Artwork for these stamps came from Aruba’s 2021 “Love your dog” competition for children.

The aim of the competition is to let the children express themselves and at the same time to make them aware of the importance of properly caring for their pet and to inform them of the “Dog Ordinance”.

Over 1,000 pieces of art were entered in these four categories:

  • Wash your dog by Nathan Kelly – 6th class of the St. Anna School – Nathan doesn’t own a dog (yet) and one day hopes to have his own to love and take care for.
  • Play with your dog by Angel Shurumay – 4th class of the St. Anna School – Angel, like Nathan, doesn’t have a dog. He drew himself caring for and playing with his own dog best friend.
  • Walk your dog on a collar by Evoleth Urdaneta Contreras – 5th class of the Maria School – she drew herself walking her own dog on a lead, to keep the dog safe.
  • Your dog as a member of the family by Marianne Casafus – 5th class of the Scol Primario Kudawecha – Marianne knows her dogs are members of her family. They are always happy when she comes home from school.

Designer: Elvis Tromp using the artwork of Nathan Kelly, Angel Shurumay, Evoleth Urdaneta Contrera and Marianne Casafus

    • OMG! OMG! OMG! I’m so thrilled you found the page. I just posted it this morning as an antidote to MORE SNOW coming down here. How did the signing go today? I am envious of how Aruba Post promotes artists and designers.

UPDATE ALERT!!

Why yes, I am still alive. Really sorry about running out of steam this year, but I'll be plugging away at countries over the next two months, and hopefully get a lot more up. In the meantime, enjoy the rich year Canada offered. Lots of topics to think about.
