The Gibraltar 2022 stamps starts off with the yearly Lunar New Year set. Chief designer Stephen Perera used illustrators Bajena and Siewhoong interesting tigers this year. Gibraltar’s program is a small one, with around 10 sets yearly. They participate in both the EUROPA and SEPAC competitions, so collectors of thematics should check them out. Gibraltar post is also a fertile ground for Post ‘n Go collectors. Last year saw 2 sets featuring the EUROPA and Year of the Ox releases.
This year’s EUROPA features excellent artwork from Malta native Leslie Gaduzo, who also worked on the 2018 EUROPA – Bridges set. 2022’s theme is Fables and Myths and Gaduzo’s Pillars of Hercules are a tribute to the country’s ancient links to Greek and Roman mythology. Gaduzo specialises in figure and portrait artwork, which shines through in this set.
A compact season, and a fun one. Enjoy.

Pillars of Hercules
According to Strabo (3.5.5), Hercules raised the Pillars during one of his Twelve Labours to mark the western edge of the inhabited world. One pillar was identified as the Rock of Gibraltar (called Mount Calpe in ancient times), with the other was Ceuta (Mount Abile) on the African side of the narrow strait.
