Monaco’s 2022 stamp program returns with familiar names like Elsa Catelin, Yves Beaujard and of course Pierre Albuisson. It’s always exciting to see some of the great French designers and engravers pop up. Fabrice Monaci and Michel Verrando (automotive art) also return with this year’s Legendary Cars and Drivers series.
Last year I mentioned how disappointed Monaco’s FDCs were. They reuse the same generic cover for every issue. That creates a bit of a disjointed design because the cover art rarely has anything to do with the actual stamp. Given the immense talent Monaco Post uses for their stamps, it’s a bit confusing why they don’t extend their work to the entire cover. If anyone has an answer, I’d appreciate knowing the reason.
Despite my FDC complaint, it’s still nice to see familiar names back for design duties.
Enjoy the year.

In 1297, François Grimaldi (“Malizia”, translated from Italian as “The Cunning”) disguised as a Franciscan monk alongside his cousin Rainier I and his men captured the fortress atop the Rock of Monaco. History of Monaco (monacodc.org)
