Jersey 2021 stamps offer a bit of history, a bit of nature and a bit of whimsy to help us make it through the year. Designer Wang Huming returns with another addition to the Lunar cycle. If you are familiar with Jersey stamps, you’ll quickly recognise his artistry in this year’s Ox series. 

The Channel Islands are well known for high quality nature stamps and 2021 is no different.  Jersey’s contribution includes 8 spectacular stamps featuring Jersey by air. This unique perspective is worth checking out.  As well, the Europa theme “Endangered Animals” shows off Jersey’s beautiful seabirds and marine life. Of course, I need to get the puffin stamp because … well puffins! Staying on the topic of birds, the “Flockdown” series is amusing and whimsical. It’s both a nod to the trials of our yearlong lock down and the wonders of watching birds to help pass the time. 

Jersey is a member of SEPAC (Small European Postal Administrations Cooperation), so they have a stamp entered in the Historic Maps competition. I’m currently pulling together the 2021 Historic Map stamps issued by the 11 members of SEPAC. Keep your eyes on the 2021 Country Index for updates. The 6 stamps from Jersey, show different maps of Jersey over a 500-year period. Cartography collectors should be pleased with this set.

The Flockdown Birds

With no cars on the roads and no people to disturb them, wildlife like the birds outside Berni’s window, became braver, and the birdsong became clearer and louder. Every day during Jersey’s lockdown, Berni Martin took out a box of paints gifted to her by a friend and spent a few minutes creating, sketching, and painting a colourful bird.

She did this every day for 100 days, numbering each one as she went. The result is a collection of 100 wonderfully colourful birds, each with its own special character and each a symbol of hope and freedom, indicative of everyone’s ambition to remain optimistic throughout the pandemic.
