Kherson is Ukraine!

Kherson is Ukraine!

Kherson is Ukraine!

1 stamp, sheets of 4, envelope, postcard

The watermelon represents the region of Kherson. From UKrposhta:

The central object on the postage stamp is a slice of watermelon – a symbol of Kherson and Kherson region. Watermelon seeds are presented in the form of missiles, which Russians barbarically shelled Kherson region. On the slice of watermelon, the artist depicted the events that took place during the occupation of the city: protests of peaceful citizens, burning buildings, torture committed by Russian invaders against the local population and especially activists. In addition, the stamp sheet presents a map of Ukraine with the designation of the hero city of Kherson liberated by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. On the envelope “The First Day” the artist depicted a Ukrainian soldier who, by analogy with a slice of watermelon, returns the temporarily occupied part of Ukraine to its place. The unmarked art envelope illustrates the chronicle of the period of temporary annexation of the city – the protests of Kherson residents against the occupation troops. Ukraine’s EUROPA 2022 series

At long last – Ukraine’s EUROPA 2022 series. I honestly didn’t think we’d see them this year, but they were worth waiting for. The word “STUNNERS” comes to mind when I look at the set.

Ukraine explored the Slavic origin myths of Svarog, Creator of the Universe (also god of fire) and Lada, Goddess of Motherhood. I suspect this set arrived too late to be considered for the competition, but, regardless, still nice to see them.

Ukraine EUropa 2022 Ukraine's EUROPA 2022 stampsUkraine EUropa 2022 2

This set is the best of the entire EUROPA competition. Artist Миколай Кочубей  Mykola Kochubey’s use  of modern imagery and tradition, backed with graphics that look like they are on fire, should be the winners in my opinion.  The eye-popping part of the set is the visuals of angels plucking on DNA strands in the Lada stamp. I missed that on my first glimpse.

The sheets offer even more details to explore. I’ve left both images super sized so you can comb through the artwork – just click on them to blow them up and enjoy.

 Ukraine EUROPA 2022 cancel

The cancel is interesting. It mirrors the firestorm coming from Svarog’s anvil and intertwines nicely with Lada’s Yin and Yang theme. Kochubey’s  use of the cover to complete the story is very satisfying. Its one of those rare sets that you need to see every piece of artwork to appreciate the theme.

A new graphic envelope is set for release on October 28, 2022, with the theme of hope and peace. This cover uses artwork from Andrey Sagach /  Андрій Сагач’s earlier image of the same title. He wrote, on his Instagram account:

After the attack of the Russian army on Ukraine, the city near Kyiv – Bucha, was occupied for 6 weeks. On March 31, the troops left the city, but left behind a lot of crime – robbed and destroyed houses, hundreds of killed civilians in the city, many raped women and children. But spring will come again to Bucha and flowers and trees will bloom again. Hryhorii Skovoroda Museum destroyed by Russians.

Garden of Divine Songs

Ukrainian philosopher, theologian, and poet Grigory Skovoroda influenced not only his contemporaries but many generations of Ukrainians as well. He did this through his teaching and own lifestyle, his words always matching his deeds.

Skovoroda is a symbol of Ukrainian philosophy today. He sought answers to questions that would never lose relevance: ‘What is happiness? How to find it?’ In his works, Hryhorii Skovoroda discovered people, life, and the meaning of being, often referring to the Bible and Christian tradition. Hryhorii Skovoroda’s philosophy relies on the idea that the meaning of human existence is the spirit, thought, and heart and that heart, morality, and creative work are the foundations of an ideal society. Hryhorii Skovoroda Museum – Ukrainian Institute (ui.org.ua)

Last Friday, the historic home of Ukraine’s treasured poet and philosopher Hryhorii Skovoroda was destroyed by a Russian artillery strike, along with a museum of his work.
Skovoroda’s home was in a tiny village not far from Kharkiv — nowhere near any obvious military targets such as a railway or ammunition depot. The attack appears to have been a deliberate act of cultural vandalism, and not the first since the Russian invasion began in February. Ukrainian cultural landmarks suffer fresh blows as Hryhorii Skovoroda museum is hit – CNN Style

The FDC will be autographed by the artists, in Kyviv September 22, 2022.

Lots of updates updates for July 3, 2022

After being unavailable for the past week, Ukraine post is back online. They were, once again, the victims of a DDOS attack that took the site off line.

Latest stamp “Ukrainian Dreams“ June 28, 2022

The latest press release reveals a new stamp was released June 28, 2022 to celebrate Constitution Day titled “Ukrainian Dreams”.

Ukrainian Dreams

Ukrainian Dreams

The design comes from 11 year old Sofia Kravchuk from Lyuboml, Volyn region. She was the winner of last year’s “What is Ukraine for me?” competition.

The children’s dream of the young artist Sofia Kravchuk about the happy future of Ukraine is connected with the winged “Dream”. In sofia’s picture, the largest and most powerful aircraft in the world AN-225 “Mriya” is decorated with pink flowers flying to the stars. Unfortunately, during the military operations on the territory of Ukraine, the legendary Ukrainian aircraft was destroyed. The enemy destroys Ukrainian equipment, destroys settlements, but he is not able to destroy the WILL and the desire of Ukrainians for freedom, he cannot destroy the Ukrainian dream. And the plane, we Ukrainians, will certainly rebuild and again welcome it to Kiev at the parade in honor of the Independence Day of Ukraine! Postcard “UKRAINIAN DREAM” (ukrposhta.ua)

It is available in sheets of 6 stamps, a postcard, cover and magnets.. You can also purchase it on a t-shirt and it’s a kick ass shirt! You can buy them here Ukrposhta Post market.

POST EUROPA 2023 – Peace is the highest value of mankind

Also announced is a new competition for Ukrainians. Ukrposhta is asking for entries to next year’s Europa competition. The theme was changed  by Post Europe officials to “Peace is the highest value of mankind“. Post Europe also confirmed the suspension of Russia and Belarus from the union and they will not be allowed to participate in next year’s competition.

I’ll follow this story for deadlines and details.

“Your own stamp”

I am not sure I’m translating this correctly, but it looks like Ukrposhta is set to release a framed stamp that will allow Ukrainians to insert their own images. Unfortunately, some of Ukrposhta’s news releases are done in jpg format, which means I can’t run them through a translator. I’m left to parse bits and pieces with my embarrassingly meager grasp of Ukrainian.

This stamp is set for July 5, 2022. I’m posting the press release here, which has images of the new framed stamp. Just click on the images to see all the details.

UPDATE:  The designer is Anastasia Bondarets | Анастасія Бондарець,  graphic artist and teacher.

“The very name “Good evening, we are from Ukraine!” is inspiring. And I, like the whole world, was impressed by our farmers, because this is the first time in the world history of wars that farmers are helping the military. And this tractor, which entails broken enemy equipment to be repaired and put into service by our military, is an allegory for how each Ukrainian does everything in its power, by virtue of its capabilities, to bring our victory closer. Everyone matters now. I am a relatively beginner in digital art, I did not expect anything at all when I sent work, much less to victory. I just wanted to bring my idea to life and the fact that this idea was liked by such a large number of people is actually an honor for me,”
Anastasia Bondarets

May 2, 2022 – PEACE is the highest value of mankind

The annual EUROPA  competition theme for 2023 has been changed to “PEACE is the highest value of mankind” in support of Ukraine. The theme was Underwater Flora and Fauna.

April 23, 2022 – service restored

Due to both the overwhelming demand and the cyber attack, online-orders are temporarily halted. They will resume at a later point. The website is back up and running though.

A new issue will be released in May by artist Boris Groch.

Given the high demand and listening to public opinion, Ukrposhta decided to continue the series about the Russian warship. We consider it appropriate to continue the series with a stamp on which there is no longer a flagship of the Russian fleet in order to record the historical course of events in this way.

Therefore, in May we plan to put into circulation new postage stamps with the current state of the ship – “Russian warship … ALL!” with a total circulation of 5 million copies. It’s not just a two-mark series, it’s a story that’s happening before our eyes.

The author of the new issue, as well as the previous one, will be Boris Groch. Stamp sheets, in addition to new postage stamps, will contain coupons, which will reproduce the image of the first brand “Russian warship, idi … !”. So all those who could not buy postage stamps with the ship will have the opportunity to receive two in one – a postage stamp without a ship and a coupon with a ship, as a reminder of the beginning of this story, which has already become legendary. Postage stamps “Russian warship … ALL!”, like the previous issue, is planned to be made with domestic (F) and international denomination (W). Ukrposhta’s position on the brand “Russian warship, idi …!”

Go fuck yourself without the ship

April 22, 2022 – DDoS attack

Ukrposhta is temporarily down because of a denial of service attack. Officials from Ukrposhta confirmed the attack earlier today. They are working to restore the online store, but there is no way of knowing how long it will take to bring the website back on line.

Ukraine Postal Service Hit With Cyberattack After Selling Viral Anti-Russia Stamps (forbes.com)

April 11, 2022 – 2 updates

The winning design of  the Russian warship, idi…! Glory to Ukraine! contest has been released and is available via Ukrposhta online store.

As well, Ukrposhta announced it will no longer sell stamps with either the Z or V designation.

Since thanks to the efforts of Russia, the letters V and Z have emerged as symbols of the new fascism and terror, the national operator has decided to stop the production of postage stamps and stamped envelopes using them and has already begun work on the development of new postage stamps with other letter denominations. Taking into account the peculiarities of manufacturing labeled products and the technical capabilities of manufacturing enterprises, the development of new postage stamps will take some time.

Until they can fully replace stamps already in circulation, they will be accepted for postal use.

April 9, 2022

Ukshposhta has resumed taking on-line orders through their website

From now on, Ukrainian and foreign collectors will again have the opportunity to order Online Ukrainian postage stamps, envelopes, cards, philatelic and souvenir products with stamps with delivery to communication departments.

As well, another philatelic store has re-opened in Kyiv. Location: Starokyivska, 8/12, tel. 044 489 11 33. Open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 10.00 to 16.00.

April 2, 2022

Some big news coming from Ukrainian post office. First, on April 1, the Philately store reopened in Kyiv! They will be issuing the “Warship” stamp through the store in the near future. They are also stocked to help collectors “replenish” their collections.  I imagine a lot of collectors in Ukraine lost their entire philately collection.

From April 1, all connoisseurs of Ukrainian philately will have the opportunity to visit the Philately store, which is located in the heart of the capital at the Kyiv Post Office (Kyiv, Khreshchatyk, 22). Here everyone can buy new products of Ukrainian philately, as well as replenish their collection with issues of previous years. Soon the store will receive the long-awaited postage stamps “Russian warship, idi …!” and envelopes “First Day” to them. For legal entities, the store can offer a wide range of standard postage stamps both for shipments within Ukraine and abroad, as well as marked and unmarked envelopes of various formats.

In other news, Ukrposhta has resumed mail train deliveries between Lviv-Kyiv. The first train left Lviv for Kyviv on April 1. If no issues occurred, train delivery will resume to Kharkiv and other cities. Ukrposhta has helped resolve a number of shipping issues, including a few not within their regular mandate. Ukrainian posties are the real honey badgers of the postal world! Despite the war, they have done their best to get mail and emergency parcels through.

“Since the beginning of the war, the number of tasks that Ukrposhta solves has increased. If earlier our task was to deliver shipments, now the transportation of humanitarian goods, assistance with the relocation of enterprises and the delivery of food packages to frontline cities have been added. In addition, traffic on the roads was complicated due to numerous roadblocks and traffic jams in some places. But despite the situation in the country, we strive to ensure timely delivery to all corners of the country. Because it is important for business, and for all people who stay at home and are waiting for parcels from relatives and those who had to move. I thank Ukrzaliznytsia, which responded so quickly to the initiative and provided wagons for operation,” commented Igor Smilyansky, General Director of Ukrposhta. Ukrposhta resumes delivery by rail

ATTENTION PHILATELISTS! (ukrposhta.ua)

Despite the difficult security situation associated with the attack of Russian invaders on our country, Ukrposhta decided to resume the work of some branches on February 25, where it can be done safely for both customers and employees. Because we understand how important our work is to you. First of all, the work of branches in a limited mode will focus on providing service to the most vulnerable segments of the population with pension payments and household goods. You can also get your parcels.

Diversity is a strength.

For everyone hanging in there with me.

I want to thank everyone who has dropped me a note and still visited the site, despite the lack of fun content. It's been a bit of a hard slog on this end and the double vision really makes things a bit rough. However, it looks like a diagnosis is on the horizon which means treatment.

In the meantime, I'm going to try and write. If I get things a little wonky, just sigh with me. Its hard to take life seriously when everything is blurry and doubled.

Thank you. Thank you so much.
