Well, all the Norwegian stamps for 2021 have been issued. That means it’s time to take a quick peak at next year’s list. The 2022 stamp themes are tentative, so, they may change as the year goes on. However, there are a few I’m hoping don’t change.Â

Highlights for 2022
January will kick off the year with a celebration of Roald Amundsen’s 150th Anniversary. Graphic designer Magnus Rakeng designed this set. Interestingly, Rakeng is also a font designer, so maybe we might be treated to some strong typography in the Amundsen set. He created the first issue for 2021 with the Peter I Island stamp 2 stamp set.Â
The second set for January will be another celebration, this time for Norway Post’s 375th anniversary. This should be an enjoyable set. I like retrospectives, especially ones related to postal history. Camilla Kvien Jensen takes on this design. Of the 4 sets she created for 2021, the Dovre Railway Line Centenary was the outstanding one.
Jensen will also be involved again in the annual Europa competition along with Wictoria Nordgaard. The 2022 theme is Stories & Myths. The 2021 competition highlighted endangered national species with Norway featuring PUFFINS! Yea, nothing better than puffins. Oh and it also featured bees. If you missed last year’s stamps from all over Europe, check them out here. You can also see all of the 2020 competition stamps Fantastic EUROPA 2020 – Old Postal Routes, which turned into a fascinating mini study on the history of mail delivery.
The magificent Mörck returns in October with a single set dedicated to the University Museum of Norway. No idea what he’ll do with this, but I don’t care. I love his work. Martin Mörck was busy last year with Denmark’s tributes to the Cz. Slania Centenary, Ã…land’s Year of the Tiger stamps, and 3 issues for Faroe Islands.Â
