Alderney’s 2023 stamp program kicks off with a literary trip around the world. In total, Alderney will release 4 sets for the year, including 6 King Charles III stamps, a puffin (you can’t go wrong with puffins on stamps) and Christmas. But they start the year with a tribute to Jules Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days, which celebrates its 150th anniversary.
French author Jules Verne centered the story around adventurous Englishman Phileas Fogg’s attempt to circle the world in 80 days, no mean feat in a world before airplanes. First published in 1872, the story has been turned into radio plays, video games, movies and tv series, including the latest which aired in 2021 staring David Tennant in the central role.
