Finnair’s 100th Anniversary of Helsinki to Tallinn flight
Finnair’s (also called Aero) first regular flight takes place on March 20, 1924.
The Helsinki to Tallinn, Estonia flight was the first regular route established by new airline Finnair, which was formed September 12, 1923. This was also Finnair’s first flight. Finnair used a Junkers F.13 aircraft, fitted as a seaplane. In 1924, there were no commercial airfields available in Finland, so Finnair relied on floats and skis.

Aero operated its flights from downtown Helsinki, more precisely from Katajanokka by the harbour. The aircraft’s maiden commercial flight was to carry mail from Helsinki to Tallinn. The history of Finnair | Finnair

“Finnair is one of the icons of Finnishness, and designing the commemorative stamp is a great honour for the graphic designer. I have always admired Finnair’s graphic style. Erik Bruun’s posters in particular have made a big impression. The Finnair logo designed by Kyösti Varis is also etched in the minds of every Finn.” Ilkka Kärkkäinen
