International Chess Day

International Chess Day takes place July 20 each year.

On 12 December 2019, the General Assembly proclaimed 20 July as World Chess Day to mark the date of the establishment of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) in Paris in 1924.

I opted for Azerbaijan stamps for two reason. First just look at this set of stamps. They are magnificent. Designer Khasay Mirzoyev created a number of memorable stamps for Azerbaijan over the years with this is my favourite. 

Second, chess is one of the most popular sports/games in Azerbaijan. Combined with the fun design, well, there was no better country to turn to for International Chess Day.
