Celebrating 150 Yrs of the Feldkirch–Schaan–Buchs Railway

by | Aug 12, 2022

Feldkirch–Schaan–Buchs Railway line is celebrating it’s 150th anniversary with a tri-country stamp set. Austria, Liechtenstein and Switzerland are issuing a trio of stamps and cancels plus 4 FDCs to coincide with a special fall event.

Collectors of Austrian stamps should recognise the sets designers – David Grub, of Vienna and Marion Füllerer, of St. Pölten.  They have created many beautiful stamps and covers for Österreich  Post over the years. Check out the 2021 and 2022 Austrian stamp pages to see their work.  Their design features three main stops –  Feldkirch, Austria, Schaan Liechtenstein, and Buchs, Switzerland.

Feldkirch–Schaan–Buchs Railway

The service, which began operation on October 24, 1872, is an 18.52 km (11.51 mi) trip.  Three trains were selected to represent each stop. The first is a 1927 steam engine from Austria.  The second, from Liechtenstein features the 2004 electric ÖBB 4024 traction train. And finally, Switzerland shows off a light electric SBB Re 4/4 that ran along the route between 1964 and 1985.

Along with a mini sheet containing all three stamps, each country will issue a separate mini-sheet, with only one postal stamp. I’m currently waiting for Austria to issue theirs. When it arrives, I’ll add it below.   You can quickly tell which country the sheet is from by spotting the stamp with perforations.

There will also be a series of FDCs to accompany the stamps.  In total, there will be 4 to chase down – one with all three stamps and cancels from each postal authority. The remaining FDCs feature a mini sheet from the relevant country with the single stamp clearly canceled  Again, I’m waiting on Austria’s FDC info so I can complete the images below, but here are the first three FDCs.

Diversity is a strength.

For everyone hanging in there with me.

I want to thank everyone who has dropped me a note and still visited the site, despite the lack of fun content. It's been a bit of a hard slog on this end and the double vision really makes things a bit rough. However, it looks like a diagnosis is on the horizon which means treatment.

In the meantime, I'm going to try and write. If I get things a little wonky, just sigh with me. Its hard to take life seriously when everything is blurry and doubled.

Thank you. Thank you so much.
