Alexandre Dumas, père born July 24, 1802

French novelist and playwright Alexandre Dumas was born July 24, 1802.

Among his best known books are The Count of Monte Cristo and the The Three Musketeers. The swashbuckling Three Musketeers have been turned into a movie at least 31 times, an animated film 8 times, 10 TV series and a host of spin off productions. It appeared for the first time in 1903 in a French production. A Soviet Union musical was produced in 1978.

Alexandre Dumas, also known as Alexandre Dumas père, was a French author and playwright, best known for his historical adventure fiction. As one of France’s most widely read authors, his works have been translated into dozens of languages. In this Dumas bio, you will a man whom acquaintance, English playwright Watts Phillips, described as generous, large-hearted, and amusing. He also remarked that Dumas’ “tongue was like a windmill – once set in motion, you never knew when he would stop, especially if the theme was himself.”
