The number of Singapore stamps for 2024 is quite small, but worth a long look. I’ve been poking around Singapore post’s website for a few years, and for the life of me I can’t figure out why I haven’t actually posted what I’ve written. I’ve made jokes that my attention span is a bit like a cat with a laser pointer, and I think that’s pretty accurate. I really am embarrassed to admit I’ve been tracking and saving details on Singapore since I began this project in 2021. Singapore was one of the first countries I began to explore when the lock down began. What sometimes happens though, is I simply enjoy the stamps and pottering around looking at details on a country, culture, history and forget to finish the articles. That’s a large part of stamp collecting. It’s not just the stamps, it’s their long and fascinating tales that offer a distraction to life. Well, here we are, at last, we’ve arrived in Singapore.Â
As stated above, the number of sets is small, which makes collecting them very appealing. Designers use one of my favourite techniques – seeing the entire set as a canvas. April’s Critically Endangered Flora of Singapore – Flora of Lowland Dipterocarp Forests is a strong example.Â
The cover is treated as an extension of the stamps, not simply a white board to stick them on. Each year Singapore produces covers like this, making the stamps especially appealing. Another wonderful things is how Singpost includes all the artist/designer names. Hope you enjoy Singapore as much as I have, and its nice that I finally decided to share one of my favourite countries with you, isn’t it?Â
I’d promise to have the previous years for you ready soon, but you and I both know, all it will take is a new shiny stamp to distract me. So, when they arrive, they arrive.Â
By the way, how can you not love a post office that offers this type of merch:

Individually and collectively, dipterocarp trees play a crucial ecological role: their roots hold together the soil; their trunks are natural highways; their leaves provide food and nutrients for other plant growth on the forest floor; their seeds feed terrestrial herbivores; and their canopy provides nest sites and temporary refuges, permanent homes for arboreal animals, a platform for epiphytic plants and fruit-bearing strangler figs, and acts as a giant umbrella, shielding the forest floor from the torrential tropical rain that would wash away soil and essential nutrients.
Forest giants – Preventing the downfall of the dipterocarp | Fauna & Flora (fauna-flora.org) has a thoughtful and fascinating piece on Dipterocarp.Â
Singapore lost nearly 40% of its biodiversity in past 200 years, not as much as was believed: Study | The Straits Times has information on current status of the forests.Â

Jurong Lake Gardens
4 stamps, FDC, cancel, presentation pack

Jurong Lake Gardens is part of an extensive 90 hectare garden paradise. Along with Jurong, visitors can enjoy the Lakeside Garden, Chinese Garden and the Japanese Garden.
Dating back to the early 1900s, the area where Jurong Lake Gardens is now sited was once a freshwater swamp with plantation farms till the 1960s when the area was conceived as an industrial town. This led to the clearing of swamps and levelling of hills for factories and other infrastructure. Today, Jurong Lake Gardens, as Singapore’s first national gardens in the heartlands, contributes towards efforts to transform Singapore into a City in Nature by restoring and extending nature into the Jurong district. The 90-hectare Gardens comprises Lakeside Garden, Chinese and Japanese Gardens, and Garden Promenade. This stamp series showcases some iconic features at Jurong Lake Gardens, as well as the flora and fauna you can observe while exploring the Gardens.Â

Many countries around the world have issued UPU stamps this year. Many are featuring a common design element (the logo 150 seen in the bottom right). But Singapore took the design to the next level and incorporated an early UPU image (women holding hands around the globe) into their new modern design. Designer Lim Wenbin, Pinch Design Pte Ltd created one of the best UPU stamps of the year.Â
