Where to start with 2021 Italian stamps? There are many positives in collecting them, it’s hard to begin. I’m going to gush for a moment so hang on. Of all the post offices I’ve looked at, Poste Italiane is the one that inspires me the most. It’s a clean, well designed site that encourages visitors to linger and explore everything on offer.Â
Poste Italiane issues detailed information sheets for each stamp. The pdfs contain crisp scans of both stamps, cancels, relevant history on the subject and design features within each issue. If you collect Italian stamps, I recommend you wander over to Poste Italiane’s Filatelia section and click on the information sheet for each. This link will show you a sample of what you can expect F.I. Campionati sci Cortina 2021. Click on the link to see the richly detailed data you can get with every stamp, presentation pack, postcard and more. I’ve downloaded all the sheets available for 2021 for future reference. The pdfs are in Italian, but Google Translate will help you out.Â
Canada Post could take lessons from Poste Italiane. Canada looks stodgy in comparison. I am entranced with the philatelic cards. They are compact reference tools that would improve any collection. Don’t get me wrong, I adore Canadian stamps and will always be a collector. But some of the countries I’ve been examining have made me rethink stamps & how they are designed and presented. This process has also made me rethink what I collect. Poste Italiane manages to capture Italy so magnificently it makes me wish Canada Post would issue information bulletins, presentation packs and thematic kits. Yes, we issue the yearly book, but I’ve never been inspired by it. Italian post office has pushed my appreciation of stamps as art to a new level.Â
Post marks, postcards that accompany with 2021 Italian stamps
I’m continuing my exploration of post marks (aka cancels). Hopefully, you are as addicted to collecting them as I am. I’ve always been a cancel hound, but this project has made me eager to start snagging modern cancels, not just fancy & Canadian slogan cancels.Â
Another feature I’ve begun to enjoy is the looking for official postcards issued by post offices. The variety offered by Italy is inspiring. Every stamp is accompanied by a postcard. My favourite, so far, is the Girolamo Luxardo set. It has classic design elements that I find appealing. What do you think? Interesting features to look for with 2021 Italian stamps
Poste Italiane issues thematic kits that combine issues from past years. This makes for an exciting addition to a collection. I’ve listed two in the table below. The first one is Art on Stamps, and includes 11 stamps, information sheets on all issues and an attractive presentation folder.Â
When you enter an art gallery or museum and your eyes light up to see a painting by Leonardo or a statue of Michelangelo, a painting by Raphael, you must know that there is always the presence of Vasari next to you, behind your back, to whisper that what you are aiming for is a masterpiece and why you must know it. The second thematic kit deals with a subject near and dear to my heart – food. The Artusi, Prosecco DOC and Italian Wines: Veneto includes 3 books, and a folder presentation on Prosecco, 10 years of Italian success. It was released Mar. 22, 2021 and available for 10 days only. Although strictly speaking, it’s not pure philatelic, but it’s worth acquiring.Â
 If you are looking for a new area to collect, Italy makes it fun and easy. Â

The story of Lydia, now an elegant 80-year-old lady living in Krakow, was discovered by chance by Eleonora, a reporter of an important national newspaper, while she was in the small town of Introd, in the Aosta Valley, which in the 80s and 90s Pope John Paul II chose several times for the summer holidays. Eleonora, while working for a journalistic service on Karol Wojtyla and her deep connection to the mountains, on the occasion of the centenary of her birth, came into contact with the Piedmontese cultural association Memoria Viva which collects in its database dozens of stories of Holocaust survivors. Thank you for your encyclopedic and informative website. I am not familiar with Italian issues and terminology. There are a few places on this webpage on Italian issues where you mentioned “block” (for instance, under the entry for “40th Anniversary Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces”. Does that have the same meaning as “souvenir sheet”? Thank you.

Blocks are groups of 4 stamps in a block. I’ve dropped that reference in future articles, unless I mean plate blocks (with the selvedge) because it seemed unnecessary. I forgot I left it on this article! I think I might go through remove block references.
