Mehmed’s massive forces circled the vast walls of Constantinople, and his ships blockaded the ports, cutting the city off completely. Ottoman canons pounded the 19-kilometer walls that protected the seat of the Byzantine Empire. Day and night the bombardment went on, crumbling the walls and the spirits of the people behind them. The siege would go on for 7 weeks, before falling to Mehmed.
