Édith Piaf died 60 years ago. Did you know that she wrote the lyrics to 87 of her songs, including “La Vie en rose” and “Hymne à l’amour”? Texts that evoke her life as a woman, first dependent, then free to the point of talking about love with an almost raw sincerity.
It’s been sixty years this Tuesday, October 10, 2023 that life is no longer quite the same rosy without “la môme Piaf”, her deep tone, her cheekiness and her beautiful vibrato. If we know her as an undisputed performer, we know too little that Édith Piaf was often her own lyricist.
