98,000 fans packed London’s Wembley Stadium to watch England beat West Germany 4-2. The final score doesn’t do justice the the nail biter the game was. The match remained tied, until extra time when Geoff Hurst scored two goals in rapid succession, giving England their first, and to date only World Cup win.

The overprinted stamps were released less than 3 weeks after the win.
