Indonesian National Armed Forces Day / Hari Tentara Nasional Indonesia
Issued in 1997 by Indonesia

The history of the TNI began shortly after the Proclamation of Indonesian Independence, on August 22, 1945, with the establishment of the People’s Security Agency (BKR). The purpose of the BKR was not only to maintain independence from the colonizers, but also to unite various laskars and armed lines spread across various regions.

BKR then transformed into the People’s Security Army (TKR) on October 5, 1945. This date was later determined as the TNI’s birthday, although with a different name.

On January 23, 1946, TKR was changed to the Army of the Republic of Indonesia (TRI). This change is an important step to consolidate the national military power under one command, considering that there are still many people’s soldiers who move independently.
