It’s World Chocolate Day!

July 7 is World Chocolate Day.

July 7th marks the day chocolate was introduced to Europe in 1550. People in Central America began enjoying chocolate as early as 1,500 BC, a millennium before Europeans showed up.

The Spanish conquestors led by Hernan Cortez bring chocolate or rather cocoa bean back to mainland Spain. The Spanish find chocolate too dark and bitter and start to add cane sugar to chocolate. They also infuse chocolate with vanilla and other lighter spices, such as nutmeg, cloves, allspice and cinnamon to give the finished chocolate a sweeter taste.

To celebrate, I’m posting one of the best engraved cacao stamps in the world.

A good stamp for World Chocolate Day!

Yes, I did this one last year, but you can never go wrong with a good piece of chocolate.

Enjoy some chocolate today. Nothing more needs to be said.
