Time for the Mongolia 2025 stamp program!

by | Nov 16, 2025

Yes indeed, the Mongolia 2025 stamp program is almost complete. And we’re here to enjoy it.

Mongolia is another of the countries I consider a gem. It’s often overlooked or dismissed by collectors I’ve met over the years. This is a shame because they are missing out on a great cultural lesson. Mongolia’s 2025 stamp program is a prime example of what I mean. It’s laser focused on Mongolia’s history and culture with themes ranging from the traditional  annual Lunar New Year stamps to popular Mongolian rock bands. The program is never boring

I had originally written an intro moaning about the lack of information I have about the country, but after finishing off the last stamp, I erased the entire intro. Turns out, after 4 years of digging around the remote lands, I have a shocking number of newspapers and resources from the country itself. It took a lot of slogging around (metaphorically speaking) to accumulate, but was worth all the effort, and is reflected in the extra details supplied for many of the stamps. Well done me!

My only complaint is the lack of details about artists. Normally I can at least cull the names from the stamps, but this year, it was pretty much impossible for me. If you have any details, forward them!

Enjoy

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the Allied forces’ – the United Kingdom, the United States, and the Soviet Union – defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II in 1945. In the general historical narrative, this era marked the beginning of a rule-based international order but also a start of another long conflict: the Cold War. To Mongolia, however, the end of WWII in 1945 marked something more nationalistic. After the war, Mongolia declared its independence and sovereignty and began to establish itself diplomatically on the world stage.

The Khurd

Mongolia has a robust rock scene, which includes incredible metal groups. It has grown steadily since the 1990s when groups began merging western rock with Mongolian sounds and themes to create a unique and mesmerising sound. In 2021 Mongolia featured another band, Haranga as part of their Popular Music in Mongolia set.

Hurd was formed in 1987 in Ulaanbaatar and still performs. The song below is from their 30th anniversary release in 2023. The visuals alone are mesmerizing. You can find more of their music on Youtube.
