Pakistan Post’s 2021 stamps was my first long dive into stamps from Pakistan. I wandered through 14 years worth of philately to get a better feel for them. It’s interesting how much you miss when you get caught up in your own collecting bubble.
Unfortunately, the images aren’t as crisp as I normally like to present. I pulled them off info sheets Pakistan Post issues for each stamp. The releases are a bit quirky but chock-a-block full of information about the stamps and the topic. All the releases dating to 2006 can be found here: Pakistan Post/Stamps-2019 (pakpost.gov.pk. They offer a bit of insight into the reason for the design and background. The June Insulin stamp, for instance, ties the discovery of insulin to the present day COVID crisis:
We are living in extraordinarily difficult times in which people with diabetes are facing an additional major heath threat. Regretfully, we have seen that people living with diabetes can be more susceptible to the worst complications to COVID-19. The evidence suggests fatalities are markedly higher among people with underlying health conditions such as diabetes. The current situation may lead to an increase in diabetes complications over the coming years. Moreover, we should worry that the legacy of the pandemic will see resources and attention focused on infectious diseases to the detriment of all non-communicable diseases, including diabetes. The newsletter for the World Environment day is more detailed. It lays out an extensive list of green initiatives undertaken by the Pakistan government. These aren’t the usual releases. Whoever created them, gives collectors a lot of background information on the issues. This makes them collectable in their own right and an excellent companion piece to each stamp. Kudos to Pakistan Post.
Postmarks & Graphic Covers
Only one FDC has been released as of July, so if you are a cancel collector, Pakistan is slim pickings. They do issue a graphic cover for each stamp. Ideally, you can get a cover stamped the day it was released. That is as close to a FDC as you’ll get.
