Tunisia’s 2023 stamp program offers a few challenges for collectors. While Tunisia Post issues an outline for their yearly program well in advance, they are a bit spare in details even after the issues are released. If lucky, I will find the designers and artists, but often, none are mentioned. Only three names popped up in both 2021 and 2022 – Héla Ben Cheikh, Islem Ouali and Yosr Jamoussi. It’s too early (as of the publication of this article) to say which designers will make an appearance in 2023 or if we’ve seen their work in the recent past.
Heading into the third year tracking Tunisia’s stamps, I’m hoping to see more multi year themes begin to appear as well as artist names. 16 sets are planned, including the annual EUROMED stamp. This year’s theme is fun – Mediterranean Festivals which should produce a few colourful covers and stamps.
Nothing to do now but wait for Tunisia Post.

Tunisian Harissa

If you haven’t tried harissa, then you haven’t lived. It’s a tasty, wonderful paste made from ripe red peppers, garlic and spices.
Harissa is a paste made with sun-dried hot peppers, freshly prepared spices and olive oil, which preserves it and slightly reduces its spiciness. It is found in almost every restaurant in Tunisia and also exported worldwide. UNESCO honours Tunisian spice Harissa with cultural heritage status (france24.com)
Last year UNESCO listed it as an Intangible Cultural Heritage. Harissa, knowledge, skills and culinary and social practices – intangible heritage – Culture Sector – UNESCO
