I have to say, I enjoyed doing the research for Armenian stamps 2021. My first introduction to Armenian stamps was this little 1922 issue.
I found it while rooting through a box of stamps I picked up at an auction. The design intrigued me and kept it, despite the fact I didn’t really collect outside my narrow area back then. My collection can best be described as airmail, Canadian and occasionally whatever strikes my fancy. I’m a bit of a philately butterfly at times. Since exploring new issues for 2021, I’ve begun to regret my narrow view of collecting. So many missed opportunities to explore.
But back to the above stamp. It shows Mount Ararat and the Soviet star. It’s an interesting bit of history packed into the tiny piece of paper. If you are interested in the stamp, I’d recommend checking out Big Blue’s page on overprints and variations Big Blue 1840-1940: Stamps of 1919-22 Armenia – what the collector needs to know. Blue notes there are many forged overprints, so if you go searching for it, buyer beware.
2021 offers up an interesting mix of stamps. I’ve included a few links, when possible about the theme. I have a bit of info on one of the designers, but I’m a bit unsure as to whether it’s the correct person. The problem of language comes into play and I’d rather not post incorrect information because of a translation misunderstanding.
And, my big hobby horse rears up again – no mention of cancels by HayPost. I’m unsure whether HayPost doesn’t issue them, or, like other countries, they are not promoted. Regardless, I hope you enjoy the offerings as much as I do. Drop a note and let me know if I’ve made an error, or you simply would like to tell us about which is your favourite. * Update: Yes, HayPost does issue special cancels, however, they are not promoted. I’ve included copies below, but they are very small.
Olympic stamps
Olympic stamps are rolling out and I think Armenia has the best one to date. It combines beautiful Japanese imagery with a nod to ancient Greek style figure. Designer Rem Saakyan did an outstanding job on over all design.
As I explore other countries, I’ll let you know if my opinion changes.
